The Learning and Student Support (LASS) department is
comprised of Special Education Programs (SEP) for students with verified
disabilities. The LASS teachers and teacher aides at BSDE operate across all
sub schools: Prep - Year 6, Years 7 - 9 and Senior Secondary.
At BSDE, both special education teachers and
mainstream teachers deliver programs to students with verified disabilities
(Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Speech and Language
Impairment, Vision Impairment, Physical Impairment, Hearing Impairment).
Some students may require an alternate or adjusted
program. An adjusted program is the same
as the mainstream program but with adjustments that allow more equitable access
to the mainstream curriculum. An alternative program is different from the
classroom program and is delivered to students to allow for more opportunities
of success and takes into consideration individual learning needs.
