BrisbaneSDE is calling for Expressions of Interest from students who may wish to study Certificate II in Kitchen Operations this year, which will be delivered by The Institute of Culinary Excellence (ICE), in their premises, which is located on the BrisbaneSDE school campus. The course is available to Year 10, 11 and 12 students. You will train in using hygienic practices for food safety, cleaning kitchen premises and equipment, maintaining the quality of perishable supplies, using food preparation equipment, preparing dishes using basic methods of cookery, preparing and presenting sandwiches, preparing and serving coffee, and more. BrisbaneSDE and Coorparoo Secondary College are offering three VET courses to students in Years 10, 11 and 12. The dates are the last week of school in September: 17th - 21st inclusive, and 5 Wednesdays - 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st October and 7th November.
The courses on offer are:

Venue: School campus at 4 Cavendish Road, Coorparoo. The sessions will be attended by both Coorparoo Secondary College students as well as BrisbaneSDE students. 

Cost: Free if you have not previously used VET in School (VETiS) funding. If you have previously used funding, Axiom College, the Registered Training Organisation delivering the qualifications, are discounting the price from $2,200 to $1,200.
In addition, AXIOM College are offering Certificate II in Hospitality and Certificate II in Health Support Services for one week during the April holidays and one week during the July holidays, at their campus.   - 18 Mayneview Street, Milton, Qld, 4064. The same costings apply, as above.

TAFE Qld Gold Coast have released their TAFE at School Course Guide for Semester 2​. To apply go to: Enter the code: TQGC1802.

Certificate I in Construction – Apprenticeships Queensland in conjunction with TAFE Queensland have announced the next project house for school students. It is at 30 Herbert Street, Sadler’s Crossing, Ipswich. The course is 1 day a week from 8am to 2.30pm Tuesday to Friday over 6-12 months. Typical day is 3 hours theory and 3 hours practical.
Students experience working on an actual job site, assisting with the full renovation. To apply, contact Dianna Hockins 0438 178 340 or
Central Queensland University offers courses to school students and they wish to advise that applications close on 2nd February. Information on their courses and also courses offered by many other Registered Training Organisations, including TAFE Queensland can be found on our website. TAFE courses commence on 5th February and there are still some vacancies. Contact Elena Simmons on 37272682 with any questions. Note that this is for Brisbane School of Distance Education students only. School based students can speak with their Guidance Officer or VET Coordinator.
Online Horse College are offering students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to study a fully funded horse course: AHC21216 Certificate II in Rural Operations (Horse Husbandry Assistant). They also offer other courses which incur a fee. For further information, contact Elena Simmons, VET Coordinator.
TAFE Qld South West are offering courses to distance and remote students in 2018. Students are required to complete the theory component online, attend one online lesson per week with the trainer, and attend 4 weeks on-campus in Toowoomba - 1 week block in Term 1, 2 week block in Term 2 and a 1 week block in Term 4. The TAFE as School Program Guide 2018 provides all details.

 Central Queensland Uni is partnering with the Sunshine Coast Technical Trades Training Centre to offer Start Uni Now (SUN) courses. Two are being offered: Built Environment and Design Program and Aviation Studies. Both attract QCE points. Delivery is online, but you are required to be able to attend one workshop per term at the centre in Caloundra. 

 Central Queensland University has released it’s 2018 VET in Schools Guide. Most courses are face to face on campus, but there are quite a few online courses on offer. There are also subsidised courses with no fee payable. Application instructions are in the Guide. 

 TAFE Queensland East Coast have released their TAFE at School Program Guide for 2018. Instructions for applying are on page 43 of the Program Guide. Note that BSB31215 Certificate III in Library and Information Services (online) and CUA40915 Certificate IV in Music Industry are not being offered. Two additions to the Hervey Bay campus are Certificate III in Screen & Media and Certificate II in Applied Fashion & Design.

 TAFE Qld East Coast are holding 4 Open Days for students to gain an understanding of what TAFE offers, either for a TAFE at Schools Program or continued study after Year 12. Contact the TAFE at Schools team if you are interested in attending any of these days:

TAFE Qld Skills Tech are offering a Year 10 Trade Taster Program. If you are currently in Year 10 and enjoy practical work using your hands, or are considering a career in the trades, then don’t miss out on this opportunity. Applications open on Monday, March 19 and there are a limited number of places available! Instructions for applying are contained in the flyer. 
TAFE Qld Skills Tech is holding two Open Days in June.  You are invited to tour the state-of-the-art trade training facilities, try’a trade and speak to the trade expert teachers. Open days present a great opportunity for you to map out your pathway into a trade and learn about exciting new opportunities in industry. Group Training Organisations, Australian Apprenticeship Centres and other organisations will be exhibiting and providing valuable information.  Dates are:
  • Bracken Ridge - Tuesday 12 June 10 am - 2 pm; and
  • Acacia Ridge - Thursday 14 June 10 am - 2 pm.
