School Based Youth Health Nurse


The Youth Health Nurse provides free, private and confidential individual health consultations with assessment, support, health information and referral options.  The Youth Health Nurse can also speak with you about many different health topics such as:

​Healthy eating and exercise                                                           
​Relationships
​Personal and family problems
​Feeling sad, worried and angry
​Sexual health & identity
​Smoking, alcohol and other drugs
​Growth and development


Please note: You can nominate people who you would like to share information with to help with your current care and treatment. If you are not sure about this, let the Youth Health Nurse explain.  You have the right to withdraw consent if you choose to. Please contact your School Based Health Nurse​ if you wish to withdraw consent.​​

The School Based Youth Health Nurse Service is a part of Children’s Health Hospital and Health Service.  In providing you with our service, we need to collect some of your personal information. The privacy and confidentiality of your information is important to us.  Most of the things we talk about are between the nurse and you BUT there are some times when the nurse may need to talk to others. Registered Nurses have a ‘Duty of Care’ to ensure you are safe and protected from harm and we may need to share with others if we believe:

​You are being hurt by someone else
​You are thinking of harming yourself
​Someone else is being hurt, or is likely to be hurt by you or another person.
when permitted under law​
​for your health care or if you give prior consent​
