Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee


An inclusion committee comprised of approximately ten staff members from across the school with a focus on assisting Brisbane School of Distance Education to implement the Education Queensland P4S strategy as well as:

Facilitate staff professional development and cultural awareness education and Understanding.
Liaise with and take guidance from the BrisbaneSDE local Aboriginal community members. Respected Elder, Goothala Doyle.
Increase and maintain school/parent/community partnerships.
Showcase BrisbaneSDE Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs and Projects.

Assist BrisbaneSDE to apply for grants/sponsorships to improve the outcomes of Aboriginal students and Torres Strait Islander students.

 
This Statement of intent

​Is a working document - it will be varied in response to emerging needs and issues.

 

Will clarify the directions of the Inclusion Committee from the Brisbane School of Distance Education.

 

​Will identify our intended actions to bring about improved outcomes for Aboriginal students and Torres Strait Islander students.

 

Showcase BrisbaneSDE Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs and Projects.

 

Assist BrisbaneSDE to apply for grants/sponsorships to improve the outcomes of Aboriginal students and Torres Strait Islander students.

 

Will identify how we intend to monitor our progress and evaluate our outcomes; a mentoring program referred to as Champions for Indigenous students, is available to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled at BrisbaneSDE.

Closing the Gap tutoring is for the purpose of providing supplementary tutorial assistance to improve educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
