At the Brisbane School of Distance Education, we acknowledge the traditional custodians whose cultures and customs have maintained and continue to maintain this land. We acknowledge the Yuggera people and their teaching and learning of the past. We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the part they continue to play in education today. We understand and appreciate that this place has always been a place of teaching and learning and we continue that custom today in our daily practices.
At BrisbaneSDE we are committed to creating a learning environment that fosters and embraces Indigenous worldviews and perspectives. We are dedicated to growing our understanding of our First Nations People and are open-minded in embracing their knowledge as educators. We will ensure our Indigenous students at BrisbaneSDE feel that their identity is being acknowledged through their online learning experience. We follow appropriate protocols to help build ongoing relationships with the families of those identified Indigenous students, to help our Indigenous students achieve their potential. As a school we will strive to grow and learn, as we build a place that is an example to others, as we work and learn amongst the oldest living culture in the world. Yuggera traditional owners and local elders play a fundamental role within our school and we are committed to ensuring their knowledge is embedded throughout our school learning community.
